I accidently went from a gawker to a nudist in one sunny afternoon in 1972. I was stationed aboard an aircraft carrier at NAS Alameda. I was driving down highway #1 and seen several spots below me where people were enjoys the sun, surf and sand totally nude. I was raised in the midwest in a small town and that seem somewhat crazy to me at the time that people in California would just run around in the buff. I went back to the ship and mentioned it to my best friend and he said I got to see this my wife does to. The following Saturday we loaded up the car and headed across the bay bridge towards highway #1 and Half Moon Bay California. We topped the hill just past Pacifica, Ca to an area known as Devils Slide. We pulled into a small parking lot that overlooked the ocean and sure enough down below us was hundreds of people enjoying the summer day TOTALLY NUDE

We laughed a little at first and my friend and his wife wanted to get a better look so we went across the road to get closer. The beach was a privately owned beach at the time it was called Eden Beach or Grey Whale Cove. The owner was a man and his wife that were in there 70's nudiest that were tanned from head to toe and were wonderful people. We paid them the required 2.00 and off we went to watch naked people. The day was very warm for San Francisco no clouds and the ages were from familes with small chiledren to people in their 50's, 60's and 70's. People were picnicing, smoking a little reefer, and sharing food and wine. The gay folks were in a seperate section past a small rock barrier. The gays and straight couples were somewhat separated.
We finally realized that the three of us kind of stood out wearing clothes.
The next thing that happened was sort of not planned but my friend's wife started stripping and then he got down too his underwear and I felt a little strange being in clothes so I followed their lead. It was a little uncomfortable at first as I began to look at his wife as she was kind of cut and had to jump into the cold ocean to hide my erection. We had alot of fun that day meet alot of cool people and went back to the aircraft carrier and told our shipmates of our down of nudity. The next Saturday more of our crew wanted to see this place and over the summer we converted half the ship to becoming nudist. I wonder to this day if this changed their outlook on life and if they ever told their family and friends after discharge of their conversion to nudity. Presently, alot of the bay area nudist beaches have been taken over by the State of California and they are often time clothes only.
